How Is Bagasse Used in Packaging?

The sugarcane pulp fibres are moulded into versatile meal trays, containers, produce trays, and other food packaging products through a high-pressure, high-heat process. Turning Bagasse into food packaging products actually uses less energy compared to the pulping of wood for paper products. The result is extremely durable and versatile food packaging products.

How Is Cornstarch Used in Packaging?

Cornstarch has been developed using polylactic acid (PLA), which is made from fermented sugars, usually from cornstarch. The materials made from PLA are biodegradable which is important for the environment. The advent of cornstarch-based materials has allowed companies to choose a packaging material that is good for the environment and still suitable for their packaging need.

How Is Paper Used in Packaging?

Historically, paper has been used in flexible packaging for many applications, including confectionery, pet food and dried food. By the early-2000s, however, paper demand as a flexible packaging substrate began to decline due to competition from down-gauging and the rise of plastic. After many years of declining demand, paper-based flexible packaging is growing in popularity with the general public as end-consumers demand more sustainable packaging solutions.
